About RSM Prince

2005 was a special year for the practice as one of the founding members Max Gunn (A well known advocate for small shareholders and the father of the television presenter Liz Gunn) recently telephoned and reminded us that it was the practices 60th birthday.

The story so far.....

In 1945 two brothers, Max and Jack Gunn after returning from the war decided to make a foray into the world of public practice accounting and in Auckland formed Gunn and Gunn Chartered Accountants which was initially located in the Campbell Building in Vulcan Lane.

At this time there was a fairly large client base in Auckland and Papakura and as a result the Papakura Office was opened simultaneously. Initially Max Gunn and Chas Prince juggled the Papakura office between them for a few days a week each.

In 1957 Chas Prince who had been working for the firm since 1954 was made a partner and the practice changed it's name from Gunn and Gunn Chartered Accountants to Gunn and Prince Chartered Accountants.
Chas has recently passed away but has left a great legacy at RSM Prince.

Grant Hally and Andrew Tuckey were working hard in the Auckland office and were made partners of the practice in 1984. At this time the practice was called Prince Black and Co and was located in the Reserve Bank Building on Customs Street. The Auckland office is now located in the Customhouse at 50 Anzac Avenue and is under the guidance of Grant, Colin, and Vincent. There are now 24 team members.

Colin Wilson was made a partner in 1990 after his return from a 1 year sojourn in Europe and can be found in the Auckland office.

Andrew headed South and undertook the challenges of the full time operation of the Papakura office together with a couple of staff. The Papakura office is now located on the corner of East and Wood Streets in the Papakura township and employs 6 team members including Andrew.

Prince Black & Co changed it's name to Prince & Partners in 1986 and then for the final time to RSM Prince in 2008.

Vincent Tam joined us in 1990 and became a partner in 1995. Vincent started our Asian division which was followed by the opening of an office in Meadowlands, Howick. This has since been relocated to our East Tamaki office on Harris Road. This office also houses our Audit division and Business Advisory services. There are presently 10 team members located in this office.

Lyle Irwin and Lloyd Kirby joined RSM Prince in 1989. In 1997 Lyle was made a partner and Lloyd a partner in 2002.
The North Shore office was opened in 1998 and is located in Corinthian Drive, Albany. There are presently 10 team members working at this office.

James Kean joined RSM Prince in 1996 and became a partner in 2007. He can be found in our Auckland office.

Steve Hayes & Liz Groenewegen joined RSM Prince in 2002 and became a partner in 2007. They can be found in our East Tamaki office.
